Callow Drive (2022), Acrylic pen on paper
These are the tower blocks I grew up in. They were surrounded by grassy hills, dotted with all kinds of beautiful weeds and a little wood, with a pond full of newts and pond snails, that I used to love exploring as a child. Nature has always given me so much peace, and I wanted to represent the importance of these green spaces in my work. I chose to use these rounded, simplistic, floral shapes to create a sense of childhood nostalgia which would juxtapose against the brutalist architecture of the tower blocks that represent the very real poverty of the area.
