This painting is inspired by my journey through motherhood. As my two children get older, then are becoming less interested in posing for photographs for me. And if they do, they often pull very silly faces. When they sleep however, they are completely at peace and I find pure beauty in their faces. I am becoming increasing interested in the way faces change when someone is asleep. The muscles relax, any preconceived ideas of what they think about having their photos taken are gone, and also by having the eyes closed, a certain level of privacy still remains.
