The surface material in this artwork is mortar. A material that I work with day in day out when helping my dad on the building site. As an artist, however, I have tested the physical property of this material by putting it through many experimental processes, which can provide a new sense of appreciation.
I have also worked with used mortar, the remnants of mortar, which can be found on the building site. Instead of it going into the skip and then taken to landfill I have built it back up as the main structural ground for this artwork. It is my way of challenging any wasteful behaviour and supporting the environment.
I used an industrial gloss/resin to set and hold this sculptural painting in place, and it can be hung from a small wall nail. This artwork is hand signed on the reverse.
