This work is part of the Flora of Resilience series.
It draws from Umbanda, an Afro-Brazilian spiritual practice in which plants play a central role as carriers of protection, healing, and energetic balance. Within this context, herbs are used in rituals to cleanse and realign both space and body.
The composition brings together rue (Ruta graveolens) and guinea grass (Petiveria tetrandra), two plants traditionally associated with protection and the warding off of negative energies.
Rather than representing these elements as symbols alone, the work approaches them as living structures of meaning where ancestral knowledge, ritual practice, and material form intersect. In doing so, it holds space for continuity, where what is carried through generations remains active in the present.

Flora of Resilience is a series of limited edition prints that draws from Brazilian flora and its cultural, symbolic, and historical layers.
Developed through detailed ink drawings, the works originate in observational practice, while extending into an investigation of how botanical forms can operate as carriers of memory, identity, and collective experience.
Each piece establishes a dialogue between scientific attention and symbolic construction, where plants are approached not only as subjects, but as systems through which personal and cultural narratives become visible.
Produced in collaboration with a master printer, the editions are developed with a focus on material integrity, longevity, and sustainable processes.
