"Angelina Dalston" is an oil pastel I made during my last days in London before moving back to Italy after living there for almost 3 years. As my boyfriend worked in hospitality, once we decided to move back to Italy, we also made a list of all the things we wanted to see in UK and going to dinner at Angelina, the Italian Japanese restaurant that had just opened close by our home at the time, was one of things at the top of the list.
We are both Italian and we love Japanese food so this was a real treat for us! Everything was perfect that night: the food, the ambience, the staff. I took only one photo at the start (you can see our cocktails at the front) and then I just enjoyed my dinner. From that photo I drew this oil pastel on paper which I am very pleased with as it's fresh and vibrant: I like the warmth of the colors of the cocktail and of Paco's, contrasting the coldness of the greens outside the big windows. The restaurant is in Dalston and I am glad that this drawing, even if it's a portrait, pays homage to an area of London that I love and that I called home for a while. I hope this artwork will transport you too in this vibrant setting, having a fun time with friends at a candlelit table.
