"Stoke Newington Farmers Market" is one of the many artworks that I've made, inspired by the first all-organic farmers market in London. A small poster advertising the market was one of the first things that I noticed when we moved in the neighbourhood as food and its power to connect people has always been has always had an important role in my art practice. The market turned out to be the perfect place for people watching too, giving me the canche to make artworks where several of my obsessions made an appearance: colourful fruit and vegs, human beings and their outfits, buildings and graphic design (can you spot the words on the tiny labels in this squash stand?)
Oil pastel are the perfect medium to depict this kind of scene: they are so bright and vibrant and their texture is great to both cover vast areas of the sheet of paper and depict small details. I hope this artwork will transport you to the beautiful city of London, a city full of history, hidden gems and lovely scenes around every corner.
