It’s Only Castles Burning I’ is the first of a pair of paintings that explores the idea of imagined castles in other worlds. Structures that may have once been burned or destroyed but find new life in vibrant, alternative realities.
In this piece I wanted to capture the idea that even in destruction, there is renewal, transformation, and the possibility of something unexpected and beautiful emerging from the ruins.
‘It’s Only Castles Burning’ by Eurythmics is the musical inspiration for this piece as a reminder that what may seem lost is often just evolving into something new. Layers of texture, bold architectural forms, and bursts of colour reflect this cycle of decay and rebirth - a dreamlike landscape where remnants of the past fuse with visions of the future.
