Some of the deepest connections in our lives are not always the most visible. I've often thought about how two people can grow in different directions while remaining connected by something that exists beneath the surface of everyday life.
Where Our Roots Touch grew from this idea. Soft, flowing formations rise from a textured ground, folding and overlapping like currents moving through the earth. The forms appear distinct, yet their boundaries become less certain where they meet, suggesting a relationship that continues beyond what we can see.
I worked with acrylic and natural sand to create a surface where gentle transitions of grey and soft white meet more tactile passages. Light moves unevenly across the raised textures, revealing small variations in depth and giving the painting a quiet, organic rhythm.
The title came from the image of roots growing underground, finding their way towards one another without following a predetermined path. They may belong to separate trees, yet share the same soil, exchanging resources and responding to the conditions around them. For me, the painting reflects the enduring nature of certain relationships. Even when our lives take different shapes or directions, there can be something deeply rooted that continues to connect us.
