The High LIne in NYC is one of my favourite place. I first went there years ago, when it had just open to the public as a park and later learned that my grandad, who lived in New York for most of his life, talked the Elevated line to my dad, mentioning this train passing through the buildings, a recollection that made a huge impression on my dad as a young boy. It all feels so sweet and compelling. What I love about the High Line is the clear design, how they left nature grow wild, the chance do people watching and walk and the amazing vistas of the city.
This woman caught my eye for her stunning outfit and I took several photos of her and her partner (you can probably spot them in another artwork of mine: High Line, NYC I). In this one in particular she seems to be posing and I love how her figure and her color scheme interact with the surroundings.
I loved to draw her golden earring, her jacket, the Converse Chuck Taylor (so iconic!) and the wonderful pletora of windows in the background.
I used some of my favourite Sennelier oil pastel hues here: yellow, cold grey, a bright red, and a new addition for me: glittery gold.
New York City is a place that I love for its diversity, the chance to see my favourite masterpieces in the museums and the buildings. To me it epitomizes the faith of human kind in its betterment and the willing to explore one's limits and to try and reach for the stars. I find all of this refreshing and exciting, coming from aon old and tired country like Italy. I cannot help but being happy and energized when I am in New York.
I hope this artwork will transport you too to the exciting New York City, a city where beauty is all around you.
I advise to frame the artwork with a glass to protect from the dust.
