TThis original 12 × 12 cm oil pastel study, now mounted to 20 × 20 cm with a white mount and grey backing board, began in my sketchbook during a quiet walk through Penarth as the rain was easing and dusk was starting to settle.

The damp path catches the last of the warm light of the day, while cooler blues and greens spread across the field and the shadows slowly deepen on the right.

The surface is full of soft texture and gentle directional marks that echo the breeze moving through the scene. It is not just about how it looked, but how it felt to be standing there.

I have left the natural sketchbook edge visible on the left, keeping the honesty of the original drawing.
