2025, 20 x 20 x 2.5 cm, Building sand, Cement, Industrial gloss, Masonry paint, Resin, Varnish on Canvas
This artwork shows my interest in elevating mortar as a material through both colour and design. Brightly coloured painted houses in Brighton, England helped to inspire my next moves.
The Summer Sky blue masonry paint helped to add power to the given rendered mortar surface, asking for an instant curb side appeal to the eyes and one’s emotions. This for me contrasted perfectly with the natural look of the mortar, which I have purposely built up to show off its robust and structural qualities. I wanted to celebrate the mortar a material that I often feel is overlooked and under-appreciated. I hope that this artwork can change this perception.
