An everyday scene, a slice of urban life, in which three people are absorbed in their own worlds, I was interested in the complexity of geometric forms in the architecture as well as those created by the interplay of light and shadow, and the strong contrasts of colour.
The pink of the mural is such a dominant element pictorially and has a dramatic impact, contrasting with the mundane activity of the characters. What attracted me was the quotidian subject matter- that it’s an ordinary urban scene, yet there are moments of quiet drama or intensity in the colours and formal composition. The viewer can speculate as to what the figures might be doing or where they’re going.
