I have a long-standing fascination with the moon. Something so distant, yet it connects all of us. No matter where you are in the world, how far away you are from home, people going through different things and living in contrasting environments, there’s a quiet familiarity. You can always look up and see a constant companion - a connection to ourselves and the landscape.
Sometimes you can sense its presence with soft moonlight filtering through windows or trees, its faint glow shaping shadows in the dark. A kind of comfort that isn’t tangible, yet still present. Inspired by this, I’ve printed a limited edition on Fabriano paper with a soft gradient effect to mimic moonlight over the mountain.
Inspiration has been drawn from the Japanese woodblock printmaking art movement known as Shin-hanga (New prints), which merged together Ukiyo-e traditions from the East with European influences.
