Gods Gangsta by Karen Chappelow 42x52cm framed in purple rustic wooden frame.
It started while I was drinking a bottle of Snoop's 19 crimes Sparkling Wine. Having seen him in concert just recently my mind wandered as to how that culture really doesn't translate that well here in Australia. Not Snoop-I love him but all of the tropes associated with it. The unforgiving streets, drugs, guns, bitches, haters, money rap skills, Grillz, the fashion etc. So I set out to paint it.
Listening to Faithless (another fave) and their songs-God is a DJ, Reverence there are many fabulous lines, like-"You don't need eyes to see, you need vision" and "Pay heed to the Grand Oral Disseminator" If I had to have a god, that would be it G.O.D-messages can be delivered very well through music so I'm playing around a bit with themes and Sister Lash (reference to Venus in Furs) with her boots with the fur ,the grill (with G.O.D emblazoned on it) and her bling-mashing the decks
