Nostalgia VII is about the feeling of holding on to something familiar while knowing that it is already changing. I wanted the central flower to feel simple and almost fragile, surrounded by larger organic forms that give the piece a sense of movement and quiet tension.

As with the rest of the Nostalgia series, I painted the forms intuitively, without a preliminary drawing. The muted greens and warm pinks came together naturally as I worked, allowing the watercolor to create its own variations, textures and softer edges.

For me, there is something both delicate and slightly melancholic in this piece — the kind of feeling that comes with remembering something you can no longer experience in quite the same way.
