Mud, ground limestone, tumeric and gesso on wooden panel
40 x 45 cm
This piece was created while listening to Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés, a book that taps into the essence of the wild woman and celebrates our free spirit. It embodies the pursuit of freedom, both physically and emotionally. The process was painstaking and deliberate—much like the journey to break free from social conditioning. Layering gesso and meticulously sanding between each layer, I built up a delicate, almost translucent surface. While this is a traditional oil painting technique, I’ve introduced locally-sourced, hand-ground pigments into the gesso, blending past traditions with a fresh narrative for the future.
