A memory of Japan held in layers of water, forest and mountain. Echoes of Japan was inspired by Lake Ashi in Hakone, where Mount Fuji rises beyond the trees and the red torii gate stands quietly in the water — a view that stayed with me long after I left.

This original reduction linocut is hand-carved and hand-printed, building rich forest greens, cool water and the pale presence of Fuji in individual layers. The flash of red from the torii gate draws the eye through the landscape, while a tiny touch of gold adds something unexpected. Because each colour is printed individually by hand, every print has the subtle variations that make it unique.
