Held in the same current

Held in the Same Current grew from my interest in how we gradually influence one another, often without noticing. Relationships rarely change us through a single moment. More often, it is the accumulation of small encounters, shared routines and quiet exchanges that slowly alters the way we see ourselves and others.

In this painting, flowing formations move through a landscape of soft greys, whites and charcoal tones. Some appear to converge, while others resist or change direction, suggesting currents that continually negotiate their way around one another. I worked with acrylic and natural sand to build a surface where delicate transitions meet denser, textured passages. Light catches along raised areas and settles into darker recesses, bringing a subtle sense of movement to the composition.

I often think of erosion not simply as something being worn away, but as a process that reveals and creates new forms. Water changes the stone it touches, just as the stone redirects the water. There is something profoundly human in this reciprocity. For me, Held in the Same Current reflects the ways our identities evolve through connection. We remain ourselves, yet carry something of the people and experiences that have shaped us.
