THE ENTREPRENEUR 1

‘THE ENTREPRENEUR 1’ is a limited edition 1/5 photography print by award-winning photographer, Ron Timehin. The framed piece is currently exhibiting at his inaugural exhibition, ‘We Who Belong’ in London and is available to purchase on SOTA along with further unframed limited edition prints. 

In Jamestown, one of Accra’s oldest communities, a Chinese financed harbour project has in recent years displaced hundreds of residents through a series of demolitions, people cleared from land their community had occupied for centuries, often with little warning and no say. Those evicted from the beach moved along the shore and built again. It is that quality, the refusal to disappear, that drew me here. I set up a simple mobile studio using a canvas backdrop and invited members of the community to step in for a portrait. Stripped of environment and distraction, each image centres presence, gesture and gaze, creating a shared space where people are seen on their own terms. The series is a collaboration, shaped by trust and curiosity and stands against the pace of demolition that surrounds it.
