The fifth artwork in The Mariner’s Dreams series, this piece sharpens the voyage’s exploration of division and passage. For collectors, it represents a deepening of the series’ central motif — the fragile boundary between land and sea, drawn with intention yet always subject to erasure. The Mariner’s Dream #5 brings the groynes — relics of coastal engineering — into focus as both guardians and ruins. Their repetition creates a rhythm of interruption, suggesting order while hinting at futility. Rippling waves, reminiscent of stair‑like ascents, reinforce this ambiguity: gestures toward progress dissolve back into turbulence before any ascent can be completed. Sea‑spray veils the scene, blurring distinctions between solidity and dissolution, between what is built and what is undone. As the fifth chapter in the series, the work foregrounds the motif of boundary and resistance, reminding us that every barrier is provisional, every defence already absorbed into the tide’s memory. For collectors, it is a meditation on impermanence — a pivotal piece that embodies the tension between human intention and the sea’s relentless reclamation.
