I've always been fascinated by the way water seems to invent its own choreography. Watching the sea, I often find myself following the movement of a wave as it gathers, folds into another and disappears, only for a new rhythm to take its place.
That Water Ballet grew from these observations. Soft blues, greens and whites flow across the canvas, forming gentle undulations that recall the meeting of light and water. The shapes seem to rise, overlap and dissolve, creating a sense of continuous movement without a fixed direction. I built the painting through layers of acrylic, gesso, binder and natural sand, allowing fluid passages to develop alongside more tactile areas. Subtle shifts in colour and texture suggest reflections moving across the sea's surface, where even the smallest change in light can transform what we see.
What interests me is how water can appear peaceful while remaining full of energy. Its movements are never quite repeated, yet they belong to a rhythm that feels familiar and reassuring. For me, That Water Ballet is about finding joy in these fleeting moments of movement and light. It reflects the pleasure of watching something continually change, without needing to hold on to any particular form.
