2024, 20 x 20 x 2.5 cm, Building sand, Cement, Industrial gloss, Emulsion paint, Acrylic, Pouring medium, High gloss varnish, Resin on Canvas
The surface material in this artwork is mortar. A material that I work with occasionally when helping my dad on the building site. As an artist, however, I have tested the physical property of this material by putting it through many experimental processes, which can now provide a new sense of appreciation.
I have also worked with used mortar, the remnants of mortar, which can be found on the building site. Instead of it going into the skip and then taken to landfill I have built it back up as the main structural ground for this artwork. It is also my way of challenging any wasteful behaviour and supporting the environment.
