Mixed media (acrylic, oil pastel, ink, charcoal) on Paper, 29.7 x 42 x 1 cm unframed, 2024
Giraffe is the second in my new series, “Picture Day," through which I delve into the world of animal portraiture and extinction awareness art.
Set against a backdrop of vibrant colours and intricate textures, each subject assumes a poised stance reminiscent of a formal school portrait, blending playful innocence with a hint of hidden gravitas. Every creature featured in this collection holds a precarious position on the Red List, symbolising their endangered status. Rendered in a ghostly, semi-translucent white against their lively surroundings each portrait serves as a poignant reminder of its occupant's vulnerability in the wild.
