This painting is unusual for me in that it is based on a found photograph from the internet. Normally, I find it very difficult to connect to a photograph of strangers but the dynamic between these two kids struck me as quite profound - on quite a few levels. It’s a crazy world we live in when we can literally search for any kind of image we want - or get it made for us - can you imagine what the work of Picasso, Salvador Dali or even Leonardo da Vinci would have been like if they had access to what we have today?

As usual, this painting is about childhood - including the complexities of childhood in the digital age. It is also about familial dynamics. I hope the viewer can relate to the piece as it might evoke memories of their own childhoods or their children's.
