The work was born after a collaboration with the pmdd project to raise awareness of Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a very severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). It causes a range of emotional and physical symptoms every month.
The artist interviewed women with PMDD and from this research, Charmagne created a visual understanding of how hormonal imbalances can affect daily life. As well as the multiple emotions women deal with at once. One thing that stood out the most was the daily disruption women faced due to PMDD and the little research there is around the disorder.
