You Don'tNeed Permission To Feel II
Mixed media Collage on postcards series (14cmx9.5cm) 2024
This series is about navigating the feelings of life and the creative process as I take a daily dog walk in the most beautiful English countryside. Nature helps process all those opposing feelings of excitement, hyper-focus and flow coupled with doubt , anxiety and insecurity when working on a
piece of artwork.
Playing on imperfection: making the application of each piece of collage discordant, seeing the cracks, the raw edges, the fragments of paintings making visible the process itself. Working small, to hold the moments of unease - intermingled with glimmers of hope - in the palm of my hand.
There’s a Japanese art form called Kintsugi where broken objects are joined with gold to highlight the repair, as a metaphor for valuing imperfection. I thought of these whilst I was making these pieces.
I walked and found the landscape soothing.
It’s ok to feel the myriad of life’s journey of feeling. All of it.
Final works with Frames 31cmx 26 cm.
