My practice explores themes of identity and validation through sensory-driven, expressive works. As an autistic woman, creating art is both a self-soothing process and an opportunity to convey how differently the world can feel. Faces, hands, bodies and shapes, serve as both subjects and symbols of experience, connection and vulnerability, while rhythm and simplicity encourage a visceral dialogue between the viewer and the artwork.

Part of an ongoing series, the artwork uses the Batik technique, recognised as an intangible cultural heritage of Indonesia, where the artisan method of pattern-making involves drawing and stamping with wax.

Using this technique as a form of mark-making, I want to encourage the viewer to bring their own interpretation to the artwork. At its most basic, it can be read as 'finding shapes in the clouds,' whilst also offering a space for layers of complexity to to emerge. The aim of the artwork is to create a moment of pause—a prompt or starting point that incites shape-finding, engagement, conversation, and reflection.
