The yellow smiley face is such an iconic image, one that everyone knows!
The history of the design is quite similar to that of the Nike ‘swoosh.’ It was created in 1963 by designer Harvey Ball to boost morale at an insurance company for supposedly $45. A few years later, brothers Murray and Bernard Spain spotted the illustration, added the phrase “Have a Nice Day,” and copyrighted their version.
