The Elders #3

The Elders series is the latest addition to the British Garden collection that I have been compiling for over 10 years. Each image presents a dominant bloom in all its splendour. It has become a fully formed individual personality and is enjoying the burgeoning beauty of its surroundings.

I tend to focus in on these exquisite flowers as I peruse my garden each morning, taking in the day's offerings. I observe the conversations that are happening between plants and amongst all the other living things. All of the images in the British Garden collection are created using one of my oil painted backgrounds and the flowers are entirely my own photography, having grown most of the flowers myself. Each bloom is a separate photograph.

Limited edition prints are available at 100cm x 100cm in an edition of 05, 60cm x 60cm in an edition of 09, and 30cm x 30cm in an edition of 25. They are printed professionally with my supervision on 300gsm photo rag paper, signed and numbered. 

The British Garden collection was first exhibited at the Royal Horticultural Society autumn show in 2015. It received a Bronze at the Prix de la Photographie Paris (PX3) Awards. I have been building on the collection ever since. As a whole, the collection explores our appreciation of nature in both a brief moment of pause and recognition, and over a lifetime... our own, and that of the flower itself. The textures in these images are meant to convey the transmutation of the flower as it moves through full bloom, into decline and beyond, and the emotional energy we experience as we connect with its beauty at all stages, through our senses, the unseen, and the unknowable.
