Minimo coffee, Napoli

"Minimo coffee, Napoli" is an oil pastel on paper that I've made from a photo that I took while I was meeting my friend for a coffee in Napoli, a city where coffee is a kind of religion, but where until few years ago, I struggled to find the type of coffee that I love, meaning the one that I have learnt to love and appreciate while living in London. Luckily in the last 5 years some "specialty coffee" places opened in Napoli and "minimo coffee" is one of those. When I saw this beautiful girl sitting in front of us I couldn't stop myself from asking if I could take a picture of her. She was picture perfect: a lovely face, stunning hair, amazing style and an elegant posture. Almost nothing else was needed, that's why I've left much of the sheet of paper blank, to enhance her figure. Nonetheless I have included some cute details like the cup and the flowers, courtesy of the coffeeshop.

Oil pastels are the perfect medium to depict this kind of scene: they are so bright and vibrant and their texture is great to both cover vast areas of the sheet of paper and depict small details.

I hope this artwork will transport you too to Napoli, enjoying a coffee with a friend in one of its distinctive side streets.
