Part of an exclusive collection for Saatchi Art's The Other Art Fair 2024 in London, the Invisible Landscapes series is part of an ongoing piece of research inspired by the book Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. About the paintings: I am fascinated by the idea of invisible landscapes. These are our mental realities, images that we create when we picture a much loved place. I love to think that our most treasured places in this world - be it a park, a garden or a forest - are photographed by our minds and formed as a mental picture, our own version of reality which is invisible, yet more real and reachable than the physical landscapes around us. So much so, that when we go back to this place, it is often a little dissimilar than we’ve thought. “Cities, like dreams, are made of desires and fears, even if the thread of their discourse is secret, their rules are absurd, their perspectives deceitful, and everything conceals something else.” ― Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities
