A hand carved stone bowl form in a pink-terracotta coloured slate stone.
Part of a new series of works entitled 'Quarry Bowls' that bridges the gap between a purely aesthetic sculpture and a functional object, creating a usable piece of art that can sit modestly within the home. The Quarry Bowl could be used as a trinket pot for pieces of jewellery, as a paper weight, or as a purely decorative piece, among other uses.
The carved form of the piece references my ongoing affinity for excavated landscapes and the unintentional sculpture they contain, whilst the untouched outer parts display the beauty of the natural form of the stone as I found it.
