A Quiet Refusal of Form began with flowers placed in a vase and deliberately left unarranged. Rather than imposing order, the painting follows the way the flowers lean, overlap and fall into one another, allowing the still life to remain loose, unsettled and slightly unresolved.
Built through layers of oil paint, the restrained palette combines deep burnt umbers, raw sienna and shifting greens. Forms emerge and recede across the surface, sitting somewhere between observation and memory. The vase holds the composition without dominating it, while the flowers resist becoming fully defined.
At 120 × 100 cm, the painting has a strong physical presence while its muted palette and ambiguity allow it to sit comfortably within both contemporary residential and larger interior spaces.
