Untangle

Created during the Covid-19 lockdown in collaboration with A Pint of Science, Untangle explores the crossover of art and sport, reflecting on the isolation and mental health challenges experienced during the pandemic.

The series highlights the importance of wellbeing in sport and sense of community it brings. During the lockdown, this lifeline disappeared almost overnight. Sporting events stopped, opportunities to connect with others were lost, leaving many feeling isolated and disconnected.

Untangle symbolises the invisible emotional barriers created by isolation. Incapable of gently unravelling, the fight for freedom causes the individual to feel trapped in their battle. Instead of fighting against it, they constrict into their isolation.

Ultimately, the work emphasises the importance of movement, community, and human connection in helping us navigate and overcome life's invisible, tangled nets.
